Though their traffic numbers are correct for the united states only, we get global monthly traffic of about 3x that - we actually see ~30,000 visitors per month at billiardsforum.info globally) their review was a positive one.

Have some tips to share? Know some good drills? How about getting in on some of the action with us…

I started this site because one of the best ways I've found to learn something is to try to teach it to others. After all, I'm learning what works and what doesn't as I go through the process. If someone else can wade through it all just a tiny bit faster, then I've helped. Teaching or at least explaining something also ensures that you understand it yourself (unless you're a hack, of course!), so writing has always been a good test of my own knowledge.

The Pitch
If you have moderate grammar and spelling skills, an interest in sharing what you know and learn about pool, and the desire to perhaps earn some spending money, you might be a good fit. Some technical knowledge is a plus but not a requirement.

Currently, we don't have any publishing requirements, no weekly quotas or deadlines, none of that sort of thing. However, we are looking for people who can form more of a "staff" than submit an idea for one tip or a drill. If you've only got one or two drills in mind, thats great too. If you've got a head full of ideas, why, we want to talk to you.

What to Do
It's simple. Write up a few sample pool playing tips, and send them here. If you could, put something like "Join the Staff" or something in the subject. Explain to me in as many words as you need why you feel you would make a worthy addition to the staff. Ask any questions you have up front, too, because you'll get the honest dope back. If you're not sure if you want to join, send an email and just ask the questions.

That's all there is to it.

Pool Players Database

Welcome to the billiards forum pool players directory. We're working hard to expand the pool players directory which will showcase both current and past greats of the game of billiards. There will be sections showcasing Hall of Fame inductees as well as sections showcasing the current champions of the sport.

The very first entry into the pool players directory was Jennifer Baretta. As you all know the billiards forum loves Jennifer Baretta. Since 2006 we've done numerous articles on Jennifer which have been showcased on various other websites such as coedmagazine.com. The next player in the pool players database with Steve Mizerak. The untimely passing of Mr. Mizerak was largely disappointing to the billiard world. We were ready to include the next pool player in the database after Jennifer and it occurred to us that no other player was more fitting for inclusion into our database then Steve.

Of course we couldn't forget today's great Mr. Efren Reyes. What then a few articles on Efren and they been well received by the readers. Unsure of how to proceed next we try to think of which player was deserving of the next entry into the database. Needless to say he came up with multiple ideas and were left with the decision of ranking them in order for inclusion. That's when Gary, the billiards forum owner and executive editor decided that we would attempt to build, all at one time, a comprehensive pool players database that our users can update as time progresses. That way all deserving players would have their on the website, and the users would have a way to add or update information as they saw fit.

Thank you everyone for reading this article and we hope that you'll stop back soon to visit our website and you are newly updated pool players database.

Billiards in Birdlington - Awards

Birdlington and district Billiards and Snooker League held their presentation evening last Tuesday night at Quay Leisure with hundreds of trophies up for grabs.

The league would like to thank Quay Leisure for the excellent buffet and all the staff for the excellent service. Trophies were presented by president Trevor Pearson.

The league hold their AGM next week and then look forward to next season following what has been another superb season.

The Birdlington and district Billiards and Snooker League held their presentation on 5/18/2006 at Quay Leisure with hundreds of trophies up for grabs.

Rocky Lane Makes Billiards Hall of Fame

Billiards Forum has just received news that Rocky Lane's world record-breaking jump shot made it's way in to the Billiards Hall of Fame.

To break this world billiard record, New Zealand's Rocky Lane had to perform miraculous Speed Jump Shot Potting.

Florida Billiards Crown

At least nine teams from the New Providence Valley 8-Ball Association and the Hard Times Billiards League made the trip. The competition was held at the Radisson Hotel in Miami.

From the Valley 8-Ball League, the Millies Place Strokers became only the second team from the Bahamas to win the Florida Championship which is no small feat considering players from all of Florida's major cities including Orlando, Jacksonville and Miami took part in the competition.

Billiards is a game of angles and one where players must remain composed when under pressure.The Strokers demonstrated that quality. After losing in the early rounds, they had to fight back from the losersí bracket, beating the previously unbeaten Florida Crazy Eights twice before they could claim the title.

Michael Demeritte, Cedric Farqhuarson, Arlington Lowe, Nyugen Culmer and Everette Munroe led the Strokers.In fact, Munroe came up big for his team in the end when he ran a skunk in the final match to seal the victory for the Strokers.

Members of the Strokers had lots of praise for their teammate Culmer after he made the "shot of the tournament." He executed a jump bank shot for a 10-0 score in his match. Jimmy Chea sponsored the Strokers.

Also in the State Division, the Chesapeake Bad Boys finished fourth. The V-8 Splash team won the Masters Division. Desmond 'Dance' Burrows took the overall title in the Masters Singles category. Donald Rahming was fourth.

Other members of the Masters Team included Abraham Adderley, Roosevelt Moss, Brian Bastian, Joey Knowles and James Lockhart.Bahamians also played in the Expert Division and the Millie Silver Bullets got second place. The team included Cardinal McPhee, Julian Seymour, Lynden Armbrister, Roscoe Darville, Jason Knowles and team Captain Elvin McClain.

The Base Road Eagles were fourth in the Expert Division.The Valley 8-Ball Association will send two teams from the newly established Hard Times Billiards League to Las Vegas for the BCA 8-Ball Championships. Hard Times President Marcio Smith will lead that team.

Some of the players in the individual competitions are expected to leave for Las Vegas this week, while those in the team competitions are expected to leave for Las Vegas on May 28.

Pakistan Cue Masters Championship

Pakistan number one Khurram Agha and number two Imran Shahzad faced no difficulty in overcoming their opponents on the second day of the Pakistan Cue Masters Championship at the Karachi Club here on Wednesday.

Khurram, the reigning national snooker champion outclassed Irfan Khan 7-1 in all the three competitions of snooker, billiards and pool. Pakistan number two Imran also gave an all round performance game to defeat Imran Qamar 7-4.

Abu Saim beat Mohammad Asif after a hard fought battle to secure seven points while Salman Shaikh got a walk over against the former number one and former national snooker champion Saleh Mohammad who could not turn up due to unknown reason.

Following are the results of day two:

Snooker: 69-62, 64-09, 31-67, 60-18

Billiards: 49-53, 50-30

Billiards in the Olympics

In the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea, billiards was treated as a sport, and included as an event. The Philippines won three gold medals at the games, one of which came from billiards.

My question is; why not make billiards an Olympic sport? Just go ahead and put billiards in the Olympics. The top players spend as much time honing their skills as other participants from other games. In many ways, it is like curling, which made its Olympic debut at the original Olympic Games in 1924.

Rather than playing on ice, billiards is a similar precision sport which is played on a table. Not much difference though.

Make billiards an olympic sport!

Round Two Results for the Team Snooker League 2006-2007

On Devil’s Tower Road, in the Cue Ball, last year’s champions, barentertainment.net beat the Cue Ball team three frames to two with a black-ball game.

Yewhung Chin, won against Dylan Alvez 71 – 9; including a 35 point break. Francis Becerra, after leading by some 40 points, just managed to win on the black ball, against Jonathan Collado, 59–49.

Laurence Sisarello was beaten 26-47 by Chris Schimidzu while Julian McGrail beat Ernest Clinton 58-17. Sean Galligan was eventually beaten 38-60 by Lee Wheately, the Cue Ball’s leading player, and four points went to the entertainers.

Uptown, on Flat Bastion Road, the Astoria Too beat Team Queensway three frames to two. Antonio Cavilla showed the value of practice beating Kevin Dobson 70-30; to become Astoria's star player of the billiard match-up.

Eddie Bear showed came from behind to catch and overtake Merv Padmose, 46-27, on the pink. Henry Bear was beaten 21-54 by Kevin Dalli, the Queensway’s starman and then Albert Goldwin showed the same skills beating Tom Rooney 46-40. Dougie Cooper went down 27 – 41 to Nicky Correa.

Four points were awarded to the Astoria Too team. On Zoca Flank, in the middle of town, St Bernard’s Catholic Social Club beat the Mediterranean Rowing Club, four frames to one.

Andrew Olivero won, 52-12, against Henry Vinet and Les Moore beat Peter Buttigieg 66-16. Mukesh Bakhru won by 62-14 against Peter Valarino and Adrian Wink, the saint’s star player, beat Wilf Smart 67-11. Henry Ward lost to the Med’s Dion Mansfield by 7-55. Still five points went to St Bernard’s. Finally, down in Rooke, the GSP lost at home to the Astoria A team two frames to three.

Alfred Becerra was beaten 27-41 by Paco Rumbado, the Astoria's star player and Dylan Ballester beat Alaine Gatt 49-37 on the pink ball. Ivan Viñales lost 23-40 to Pepe Santos and Leslie Bruzon, the police starman, beat Keith Correa 63–44. Only for Brian Garcia to get a walk-over. Four points were awarded to the Astoria A team.

Round 2 : GBSA Team Snooker League

Today, Wednesday 1st November, the third round of the team snooker league takes place at four venues around Gibraltar.

Game 1. The GSP take on barentertainment.net, at their home club in Rooke, on Queensway Road.

Game 2. Up on Flat Bastion Road the Astoria R&F Club sees the first ‘local’ derby of the season when the Astoria Team plays the Astoria Too.

Game 3. The Cue Ball, on Devil’s Tower Road, welcomes St Bernard’s Catholic Social Club.

Game 4. In the ‘new’ premises at Jumper’s Bastion, Team Queensway is at home to the Mediterranean Rowing Club.

There are still 19 rounds to go but all players must concentrate on their game. Any one can win a single frame; even against the best. Captains are reminded that scoresheets must be returned to the association secretary on Thursday. All captains must make sure that their team registration sheets, containing names and contact telephone numbers of all their players must be with the GBSA Secretary by now! Technically no player can play in the league or enter for an open tournament unless they are registered with the secretary.
The St Bernard’s Open Snooker Tournament.

This competition, sponsored by Famous Grouse from Anglo Hispano, is the first ‘open, ranking’tournament of the season. The tournament is open to any member of the Gibraltar Billiards & Snooker Association at the time of the draw. All names, plus contact telephone numbers, must be entered on to the sheet displayed in St Bernard’s Social Club; by the player or his captain.

The organizers will attempt to contact each player with details and reminders but it is the responsibility of each and every player to know when and who they are playing. Postponements will only be considered at the request of both players.Any further information from Eddie Newton at St Bernard’s Social Club 78188.

Clicks Billiards Non-Smoking Violations

The Click's Billiards location on North Lamar has taken top spots on the list for both complaints and violations of non-smoking ordinance.

A Click's Billiards customer named Mark Hebert said that despite the legislation, he still feels that it is his right to smoke. He says, however, that he will go outside to finish his cigarette if he's asked by the bar owner or by another patron.

"I feel like I'm 41 years old, and I have to sneak like an 18-year-old, and go (puff) on my cigarette. It's terrible!" Mr. Hebert said when asked about his smoking in the billiard hall.

Phil Collins Bar Billiards

Phil Collins was the star of the show when Wallingford's Horse & Harrow beat against Oxford's reigning champions Morris Motors 3-2 in the All England Team Championships Area final. The match was held at the Red Lion in Cassington.

Motors' Pauline Withey began with a break of 6,870 in the deciding game, however Collins replied with a run of 8,600 leading to a 8,970-7,050 victory for Horse & Harrow.

Ray Sturgess with 8,280 and Keith Sheard with 12,040, break 10,380 had given Morris Motors a 2-0 lead. The Horse & Harrow fought back with Garry Johnson with 17,160, break 10,370 and Pete Burton with 7,870 before Collins snatched victory.

The Horse & Harrow now go on to the All England finals in Reading on Sunday October 22.

Guernsey Vs. England - Bar Billiards

In the first international match at home, the Sarnians lost 33-19 to England. Sarians players weren't surprised at the results, as they consider England to be pioneers of the sport. The claim to have come out in full force again the England team.

"Basically we were playing the best players in the world. When you consider the standards we have 30 to 40 players to choose from and they have hundreds. We were very, very pleased. It was better than we hoped," said Guernsey team member Bob Chapple.

The bar billiards set began with the pairs matches which turned out to be extremely close, with the visitors taking a 14-11 lead.

Tom Oliver and Mat Ogier had got Guernsey off to a good start when they beat Jim Millward and Tony Walsh 4-1. Terry Kenny and Paul Dyer also claimed a win for the home team.

In individual play, Guernsey took eight points to England's 19 points. "We were very pleased to lose 19-8 in the individuals," said Chapple. The first four matches saw England's Paul Sainsbury, Mark Turner, Tony Walsh and Nigel Senior take all 12 points off Darren Ogier, Karl Ogier, Kenny and Roy Le Page respectively.

Oliver went onto get the home side's first points in this category when he beat Keith Sheard 2-1 in a very close game. Dyer then took a point off Millward, who is the three-time world champion. Next, Guernsey captain and current island champion Trevor Gallienne stepped up to face England captain Kevin Tunstall and he scored a 3-0 victory. Mat Ogier continued a good run for the greens as he got the better of Peter Farrelly 2-1 before Chapple came undone against the in-form Steve Mariner 3-0.

The Guernsey team will be looking to get their revenge when they travel to England to face them once again next year.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was presented with a championship billiards table during a courtesy call at the Malacañang Palace recently. The presentation was led by Pampanga Fourth District Representative Anna York Bondoc-Sagum.

The billiard table was crafted from solid Philippine narra hardwood, and crafted by Kapampangan master carpenters led by Martin Manalo. Manolo was the protégé of the late Don Gonzalo Puyat, the country's first manufacturer of bowling lanes, furniture, and billiard tables.

"We are honored to present to our beloved President and cabalen and to the rest of the nation this championship table especially made for the first 'Philippine Challenge Billiards Tournament," Sagum said during the call.

The quality of this billiard table is superb, as each aspect of design is taken a step or two beyond the standard procedures of most modern table manufacturers. Standard procedures by table makers call for simply attaching the Italian slate top to the body of the table, since the slate is machine-finished smoothly enough by the Italian quarries. The Puyat artisans go a step further when it comes to the slate; they sand and hone the slate by hand, to be 100% certain that it is perfectly level.

The championship table is a showcase of Kapampangan artistry, with slate from Italy, cloth and balls from Belgium, maple cues from Canada, and lumber and master labor from the Philippines.

Others present during the courtesy call include former congressman Juan Pablo Bondoc, Aristeo Puyat, Jose Puyat, Representative Rey Aquino, San Luis Mayor Jayson Sagum and Rolly Vicente, manager of the "magician" Efren "Bata" Reyes.

Pankaj Advani Leads IBSF Snooker Challenge

Former World Snooker champion Pankaj Advani will lead the Indian challenge in the IBSF World Snooker Championships. The event is being held in Amman, Jordan from November 4-15.

Anuja Thakur, the first female player to win the Arjuna award this year, and Vidya Pillay will represent the country in the Ladies potion of the event.

Advani, who is only the second player to have won both the world snooker and billiards titles, will be accompanied by Manan Chandra. Yasin Merchant will also be present but only as the reserve player, Billiards and Snooker Federation vice-president R K Tandon said on Wednesday. In the Masters category, Geet Sethi and Devendra Joshi will play for top honours after winning the title in the USA.

Here is a creative way to hide the blogger nav bar without actually removing it. This will allow you to operate your blog within the confines of blogger's terms of service. It is a simple javascript snippet, and can be implemented with only two or three lines of codes.

1 - Add this code to your BODY tag:

2 - Add this code in ABOVE your upper most visible element tag. This is usually the blog title tag.

This will force an automatic scroll down the page JUST far enough to push the navbar out of visibility. There is an example of how i've implemented this:

I have a billiard blog which is the site you are now on. Allow the page to load fully, then you will see it "jump" just enough to hide the nav bar.

Coralia Club Playa De Oro

Thought i'd blog about this vacation after looking at some of the pictures. Sorry for any American readers who can't go to Cuba on vacation to enjoy the great weather. We even got to play some billiards in the town of Varadero, Cuba where our resort was! What an interesting time. The quality of the table was good, as was the quality of the cues. We stayed in the resort hotel, Coralia Club Playa De Oro, an all inclusive hot spot on the Varadero strip.

We'd definitely recomment this place, and we may take our next vacation there too! (If I can get some time away from maintaining this site!

Antique Pool Table Returned

There are probably quite a few antique pool tables out there, but probably not many with the type of history belonging to Gabriel Dumont.

Dumont, a Saskatchewan stopping place owner and billiard enthusiast in the late 1800's, had a billiard table looted from him by the Canadian Forces. After many years, and several strange locations to call it's home including a penitentiary, the table now owned by Parks Canada is being returned to its hometown.

UK Bar Billiards - Keith Sheard - Democrats Lose

Keith Sheard ushered Morris Motors to a four-two victory over the Democrats in the Oxford and District League. Sheard recovered from the loss of his first game.

Sheard lost 4,130 to 4,040 to John Patey in the first, but went on to score 21,460 in the second. (break 13,840) Dave Bartlett was the top scorer of the set for Democrats with 10,250.

Corner House's Peter Farrelley (10,800 and 9,730) was the only player to successfully figure out a tricky pool table and came to terms with it's nuances as they defeated Masons B five-one.

After Mick Jones black-pegged, Jason Smith (1,900) was the Masons' only winner.

Apart from Stick Men, there have not really been many feature films about cue sports, such as pool, billiards, or snooker. Thats where the "9 Ball" movie comes in. This feature film by Anthony Palma of Main Street Productions stars Jennifer Barretta, (one of billiardsforum.info's favorites) one of pool's hottest female players.

Aside from being the most blogged about female IPT player, and being phenomenally skilled, is she not about the most gorgeous billiard player you have ever seen? There is something about a woman playing billiards that just makes the whole thing look amazing! Check her out at the 2005 Worlds in the photo to the left!

If I was ever lucky enough to play against her, I'd be intimidated out of my shoes! She has a very impressive professional record, and continues to dominate the circuit. She has even been cast in an upcoming billiard film called "9-Ball" as the lead role of "Gail" whom Jennifer says is a character similar to herself. If you have ever tried to make sense of the official rules of pocket billiards, or of some of the lingo of the pros at your local pool hall, you were probably left scratching your head.

Beacause of this, and because of the requests from users for such a feature, billiardsforum.info has created a billiard terms glossary.

The billiard terms database has since grown to over 400 different words and phrases. It has an extensive billiard slang terms category, a 200 word sub-database that will teach you to become a savy pool hall player.

You can also submit terms to the database if you find that it is incomplete. We will also do our best to add new billiard terms as they are found.

Billiard Forum Modification Go Live Today

Greetings,

I have been working on some forum modifications as of late, and finally had the time today to put them in to place. Now the billiardsforum.info members can private message the webmaster, or each other directly from the forum. They will also get notifications of new messages via email.

Additionally, I am looking for some moderators, and some suggestions for the best way to set up the categories. I want this forum to be as user-centric and user-friendly as possible.

Mike Russell, eight-time world champ in English billiards is favored to win this years.

He is the favored hopeful to take first prize in this year's championships. First place prize purse is is £5,000 from a total prize fund of £15,250. The following is a list of this year's group draw:

The tournament runs from May 30, 2006 to June 2, 2006 and is held at Pontin's in Prestatyn. It will be contested by 14 players, and the initial group matches will be played over one 120-minute session.

The top two players in each group then progress to the quarter-finals, which are played over one 150-minute session. Semi-finals are played over two 120-minute sessions and the final is played over two 150-minute sessions.
